This is my grade 8 portfolio. This year I have learned a lot. In social studies I have learned about Early People to Mesopotamia. We are currently learning about Egypt in social studies. In math I have learned a lot. From rates to ratio, to dividing fractions. For Science we are currently learning about density. I have learned different kinds of genres, elements of a short story, similes, and a lot more in english language arts.

In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:
My Subjects
Math
Term 1 Reflection
In term 1 I learned how to do rate, ratio, proportion, square root, squared, and the Pythagorean theory. The easiest thing for me to do is square rooting and squaring numbers. its easy for me because all i have to do is use a calculator. My favorite thing to do is rates. Rates are my favorite because to me it is fun figuring out how much one liter of something cost. At first i didn't understand the Pythagorean theory, but after learning how to do it, i realized how easy it was. I did all my work in class and if i didn't finish it i did it for homework. I don't really like doing textbook work but it helps me understand the unit more. Another thing i don’t really like doing is bogging. I don't know why i don't really like blogging. To do better in term 2 than in term 1, I will write more notes, and ask more questions if i don't get what I'm doing. Math has been easy so far, but i expect it will get even harder.
Term 2 Reflection In term 2 we learned how to find percents, total surface area, and volume. I think I did well on finding the volume of an object. I taught it would be harder to find the volume than finding the total surface area. The thing I struggled on this term was the percent unit. I didn’t get how to use hundred charts until I asked. To be more better next term I am going to ask questions when I don’t understand something. In percent, I learned how to find the total price of something including tax. In surface area, I learned how to find the surface area of 3-D shapes, like the triangular prism, rectangular prism and a cylinder. In volume I learned how to find the volume of a 3-D shape. It’s so much easier finding the volume because all you have to do is multiply the area of the base with the height.

Thank You Ma'am Drawing GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components: Subject: TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? I was required to compose a friendly letter using information from a short story.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are several reasons I an doing this assignment. First I learned the elements of a short story and I learned how to identify them in our story. Next we learned the components to write in a friendly letter format. Then we applied specific story details and write in first person as if we were a character from the story CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?

For my 2 minutes to make a difference project, the topic i chose is child labour. The questions i made up to help my learn more about child labour are: What can we do to help prevent child labour?, What are the different jobs do they have to do?, and why should we care about child labour?
